Favourite Films

Here’s a list of some of my favourite films so you can get to know my taste in film.

By the way, this isn’t everything, because that would take waaaaay too long!

Perks of Being a Wallflower

Fantastic ‘coming-of-age’ film, brilliant acting, faithful to the book (Which is also amazing)

As a freshmen in High School, Charlie, portrayed by Logan Lerman, struggles with bullies, depression, bad influences and girls. Based on the book written by Stephan Chbosky, the Perks of Being a Wallflower thrives as a film. While Charlie wants to survive high school, he forces himself to participate in school functions, to prevent himself from falling back into his depression. The not-so-typical teenager finds himself being taken under the wing by a few seniors, and has never been so excited to have friends again. Finally being happy, Charlie experiments with drugs, sex and the part scene, but underlying problems from the past cause Charlie to spiral out of control.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier

My personal favourite Marvel and superhero movie of all time, the Russo Brothers are truly skilled as directors, able to capture immensely entertaining action sequences whilst retaining a great story.

For Steve Rogers, awakening after decades of suspended animation involves more than catching up on pop culture; it also means that this old school idealist must face a world of subtler threats and difficult moral complexities. That becomes clear when Director Nick Fury is killed by the mysterious assassin, the Winter Soldier, but not before warning Rogers that SHIELD has been subverted by its enemies. When Rogers acts on Fury’s warning to trust no one there, he is branded as a traitor by the organization. Now a fugitive, Captain America must get to the bottom of this deadly mystery with the help of the Black Widow and his new friend, The Falcon. However, the battle will be costly for the Sentinel of Liberty, with Rogers finding enemies where he least expects them while learning that the Winter Soldier looks disturbingly familiar.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World

I love Edgar Wright. I love the Scott Pilgrim graphic novels. This movie was perfect. It has style, humour and action that I can not even describe how awesome they are.

Scott Pilgrim plays in a band which aspires to success. He dates Knives Chau, a high-school girl five years younger, and he hasn’t recovered from being dumped by his former girlfriend, now a success with her own band. When Scott falls for Ramona Flowers, he has trouble breaking up with Knives and tries to romance Ramona. As if juggling two women wasn’t enough, Ramona comes with baggage: seven ex-lovers, with each of whom Scott must do battle to the death in order to win Ramona.

What We Do In The Shadows

What-We-Do-in-the-Shadows

Taika Waititi just ‘gets’ comedy. He has a unique style and vision, paired up with Flight of the Conchords star Jemaine Clement, this movie was fantastic.

Follow the lives of Viago (Taika Waititi), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh), and Vladislav (Jemaine Clement) – three flatmates who are just trying to get by and overcome life’s obstacles-like being immortal vampires who must feast on human blood. Hundreds of years old, the vampires are finding that beyond sunlight catastrophes, hitting the main artery, and not being able to get a sense of their wardrobe without a reflection-modern society has them struggling with the mundane like paying rent, keeping up with the chore wheel, trying to get into nightclubs, and overcoming flatmate conflicts.

The Empire Strikes Back

This is just a classic. My personal favourite Star Wars film, this movie was the rare sequel that’s better than the original, with one of the most iconic twists ever in film.

In this “Star Wars” sequel, the battle to save the galaxy from the evil Darth Vader rages on. Han Solo, Princess Leia and Chewbacca are tested in a devastating attack by the Imperial army and its AT-AT walkers. Meanwhile, Luke Skywalker seeks out the ancient Yoda to learn the secrets of the Jedi… secrets Luke will need when the Dark Side of the Force beckons him in a destiny-defining duel with Darth Vader.

The Force Awakens

Disney successfully revived the Star Wars franchise (after the prequels) with newcomers and the original cast. This move was just sooooo awesome.

A scavenger (Daisy Ridley) and a renegade stormtrooper (John Boyega) enlist the help of legendary smugglers/freedom fighters Han Solo (Harrison Ford) and Chewbacca to transport a droid carrying information regarding the whereabouts of long lost Jedi Master Luke Skywalker to General Leia Organa of the Resistance before it falls into the hands of Kylo Ren and the First Order.

Indiana Jones and The Last Crusade

Indiana-Jones-and-the-Last-Crusade

All three of the Indiana Jones are fantastic, (That’s right, there’s only three in my mind, the fourth one doesn’t exist) In my opinion the third one in the franchise is the best both as a film, and a piece of entertainment.

Indiana Jones, famed adventurer and archaeologist acquires a diary that holds clues and a map with no names to find the mysterious Holy Grail- which was sent from his father, Dr. Henry Jones, in Italy. Upon hearing from a private collector, Walter Donavan, that the mission for the Holy Grail went astray with the disappearance of his father, Indiana Jones and museum curator Marcus Brody venture to Italy in search of Indy’s father. However, upon retrieving Dr. Henry Jones in Nazi territory, the rescue mission turns into a race to find the Holy Grail before the Nazis do- who plan to use it for complete world domination for their super-race. With the diary as a vital key and the map with no names as a guide, Indiana Jones once again finds himself in another death defying adventure of pure excitement.

The Incredibles

THE INCREDIBLES

I love Pixar. I have an immense love for almost every single Pixar movie, but The Incredibles is my favourite. (Maybe I just like superheroes)

Bob Parr (A.K.A. Mr. Incredible), and his wife Helen (A.K.A. Elastigirl), are the world’s greatest famous crime-fighting superheroes in Metroville. Always saving lives and battling evil on a daily basis. But fifteen years later, they have been forced to adopt civilian identities and retreat to the suburbs where they have no choice but to retire as superheroes to live a “normal life” with their three children Violet, Dash and Jack-Jack (who were secretly born with superpowers). Itching to get back into action, Bob gets his chance when a mysterious communication summons him to a remote island for a top secret assignment. He soon discovers that it will take a super family effort to rescue the world from total destruction.
